June is National Dairy Month! It started out as National Milk Month in 1937 as a way to promote drinking milk. It was initially created when there was a surplus of milk and has now developed into an annual tradition that celebrates the dairy industry! Did you know that:

  • *There are 9,900 dairy farms in Wisconsin.
  • *96 percent of Wisconsin dairy farms are family owned.

National Dairy Month is a great way to start the summer with nutrient-rich dairy foods. Dairy products contain nine essential nutrients which may help to manage weight, reduce risk for blood pressure and osteoporosis! The protein keeps you full and can build and repair muscle tissue, while vitamin A helps to maintain healthy skin.

In the 1960’s there were plenty of celebrations, but the first official farm breakfast was held at Howlis Farms in Jefferson County in 1970. What better way to celebrate the most Wisconsin of holidays than attending a breakfast on a farm?!

  • *Tens of thousands of Wisconsinites visit 70+ farm breakfasts every year.
  • *At this year’s farm breakfasts, attendees will enjoy more than:
    • 5,000 gallons of milk
    • 300,000 scrambled eggs
    • 100,000 pancakes

So this year celebrate Dairy Month by attending any one of these amazing breakfasts across the state! After all you haven’t experienced summer in Wisconsin until you’ve had breakfast on a farm.

Did you know that 99 percent of all U.S. households purchase milk? The average American consumes almost 25 gallons of milk each year. So let’s all raise our cold glasses of milk (with or without a donut) in celebration of National Dairy Month! #ShorewestRealtors #ShorewestFamily #DairyMonth #Wisconsin
