January is a time for personal reinvention and refreshment, but don’t forget that you can do plenty of things to better your home, too! Do you have a list of New Year’s home improvement goals for 2023? Add these renovation and maintenance ideas to your list of winter-friendly goals you can complete before tackling outdoor projects in the spring!
1. Indoor Window Washing
It’s going to be a while before you’ll want to wash the outside of your windows, but that shouldn’t stop you from taking in the view around your home! Wash the inside of your windows for a quick and easy way to get a better view of the winter wonderland outside. You can manage the other side of your windows once the weather warms up!
2. Dye Testing Your Toilet
Looking to save money on your water bill? Start with your toilet! Put a few drops of food coloring into the tank, and wait 10 minutes. If you see any food coloring in the bowl, it’s probably time to replace your toilet’s rubber flapper, a relatively easy fix that will save you a lot of money in the future.
3. Change Your Furnace Filter
Wisconsin winters can be especially long and brutal. If your furnace is working hard to keep you warm this season, it’s probably time to check on the filter. Furnace filters usually last about three months at a time, but you may have to change them more than once through the season if the weather is especially harsh.
4. Paint Refresh
If you’re sick of looking at a wall color that you don’t love like you used to, now is the perfect time to get started on an interior refresh! However, bear in mind that even water-based paints can still have a lingering smell. Make sure you have plenty of fans and airflow to help keep any unpleasant odors to a minimum.
Your New Year’s resolution doesn’t have to be a major project, and fixing up your home shouldn’t be either. By starting with some of these smaller winter projects, you’re sure to find that fixing up your home in 2023 doesn’t have to be as intimidating as it appeared to be in the beginning.
