After buying a new home with the help of your Shorewest Agent, you’re ready to customize it to your liking. But before you begin painting, there are a few things you need to do. Here are six things you need to do before you begin:

1. Clear your room.Besides covering furniture, get rid of all the extra clutter.

2. Take everything off the walls. It’s kind of a given to remove decorations off the walls, but remove light plates, electrical plates, nails, screws, sinkers, etc.

3. Corral all covers and screws.

4. Dust the walls. Depending on where your furniture was resting, your room might have some dusty spots. Not a big deal — grab a Swiffer and go to work!

5. Vacuum the baseboards. Dust will collect in your baseboards. Before you start painting, take a vacuum and get rid of dust.

6. Patch holes. Don’t just paint over the holes in your wall — caulk and fill them.
